Why good leaders make you feel safe? 😪

Before we try to understand the theme, we need to understand what is leadership. According to Forbes, Leadership is a process of social influence that maximizes the efforts of others towards the achievement of a goal. Is a social process where we have a group with a common ideal and in this group, they have a leader to guide them behind their goals. This leader needs to positively influence and help each member of the group and be respected by them.

On Simon Sinek’s TED Talk, he says that after study a lot about a military incident, he started to question himself what means to be a leader and where this feeling comes from. Because how someone could save others, even know you can die together? This is a really difficult question and for a bunch of people doesn’t make any sense. But the proposal about that is the feeling of trust by each member of the group, they trust themselves and know that the others would do the same.

In the business world, we not usually see things like that. The people there are colder and have themselves goals, this feeling about helping each other is not so disseminated and reach yourself goals is more important. We not must compare equally these two scenarios because they are different, but we need to be so individual in the professional world? My honest opinion is no.

Offer a shared environment and an open culture is the mission of the leader or leaders from the company. The members of the group must be feeling respected and protected, otherwise, they won’t feel the feeling about be part of the team or free to be creative, and things like that really can destroy the company.

So if you aren’t making anything that I said before as a leader. Start question yourself if you are a good leader or your position matches with you, because a lot of people don’t want to be a leader and sometimes they are forced to be that to increases on the company. If you want to be a leader, don’t worry just with the company goals, but with team health too, because they really will help you reach your goals and the company goals.
